Following on from successful event in 2006, Falmouth Rugby Club hosted the second annual Pub 7’s rugby tournament in aid of the NSPCC. In all eight teams entered making for an enjoyable and exciting tournament.
There was a pleasant crowd offering support to both their and other teams. The day was made all the better by the fantastic weather which stayed for the duration. The cup winners were the Corn Exchange Nightclub from Camborne, beating the Falmouth based Boslowisk Inn 31-5 in a fast but rather one-sided game. The plate winners were Fowey based Galleon Inn beating the Spice of Life from Redruth 29 - 14 again in an exciting final with the Galleon Inn proving to fit in the second half.
Coordinator Neville Curnow said “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their help on the day and the run up to what was a complex event from start to finish, it could not have happened without you, the teams and the supporters for coming and making this event fun and successful.”
The final amount raised has not yet been calculated but we estimate around £500 has been raised for the NSPCC. As with all annual events in the early stages they get better every year and with this year going so well next years tournament looks very promising indeed.
